Consider Installing an Air Cleaner This Winter

Dependable Service Since 1926

Every time you take a breath, you inhale millions upon millions of microscopic airborne contaminants. Some common airborne contaminants found in homes include dust, dander, pollen, viruses, bacteria and mold spores. Though they are often too widespread to do significant harm in a short amount of time, breathing these contaminants over a prolonged period makes a number of health problems far more likely. For example, allergy attacks, flu and cold symptoms, and chronic conditions like asthma all commonly occur from long-term exposure to airborne contaminants. In order to address these issues, it’s best to install an air cleaner in your home. Let’s take a look at some common air cleaner types, and how they can benefit you.

Air Filters

Air filters are made of closely woven fibers, stretched over a frame and installed in the ducts of a home. As air flows through the filter, any contaminants it carries become snared in the fibers. Air filters are an affordable and effective way to remove the majority of contaminants from a home’s air, which is why they tend to be the most popular air cleaner type.

Ionization Purifiers

Also referred to as “electronic air purifiers,” these systems release magnetically charged particles during operation. As these particles come into contact with contaminants in the air, they grant them a magnetic charge of their own. The magnetically charged contaminants are then attracted to metal plates in the purifier, which can be removed and cleaned.

UV Germicidal Lights

These systems do not focus on physically removing contaminants from your air. Rather, they sterilize the air by giving off large amounts of ultraviolet light. Exposure to this much UV radiation is enough to kill many kinds of germs and mold spores. So, a UV germicidal light protects you by killing off infectious agents instead of taking them out of the air supply entirely.
