Keep your home comfy for the holidays

by KarlaMartin

Meet Lance Gabriel, licensed HVAC contractor and heating and cooling project manager for Bell.

Lance has been with the company since 2013 and has a wealth of information regarding equipment best practices.  Here is some great information from Lance to keep your home comfy for the holidays.

To achieve the best efficiency from your current system there are some performance checks once a month that can save you hundreds, even thousands on repairs or replacement.

  1. To maximize efficiency and extend the life of your furnace, air flow is critical. A dirty filter is the primary cause of breakdowns. Set a reminder on your calendar the same day every month to change or clean the filter. It’s an inexpensive way to make sure your system lasts.
  2. For safety as well as improved air flow, keep the area around your furnace as clutter free and clear of dust, pet hair and dirt as you can.
  3. Check the intake grills and supply air registers to ensure they are open, free of dust, and clear of any blockage.

If you do run into an issue getting heat to your home, there are a few things you can check before calling a service professional.

  1. If your unit has a separate power switch, make sure it’s turned to the “on” position.
  2. Check breakers or fuses to make sure they haven’t tripped or blown. If you find a tripped breaker or a blown fuse, the circuit is pulling too much power and you will need to call a licensed technician.
  3. Next, check your thermostat, make sure it has power and fresh batteries, and is set to the right control for the season. You might also try turning up the thermostat five degrees to see if the system kicks on.

A well-maintained furnace can last for 15 to 20 years. If your furnace is getting up in years, is producing loud noises, or is heating inconsistently, give Lance a call for a complimentary replacement estimate.
