Consider Installing a Boiler This Fall

Dependable Service Since 1926

Winter is coming, as we are so often told, and for some of us that means it’s time to install a new heating system. As you start to look for a new heating system for your home, it’s important that you consider the pros and cons of each. You’re going to want to find a heating system that’s suited to your unique needs. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the benefits a boiler system can offer you this heating season.

How Boilers Work

A boiler system uses water, rather than forced air, to distribute heat throughout the house. A network of pipes is installed in the subfloor of each room in the house. Occasionally, terminals like iron radiators or baseboard heaters will be attached to the network. While the system is operating, the boiler heats and distributes water throughout the network. As the water flows through the network, the heat radiates through the pipes and into the rooms. The thermal energy is transmitted directly between objects in the room, keeping it near the floor. This is opposed to forced air systems, which circulate heat throughout the room.

Advantages of Using a Boiler System

There are a number of advantages to using a boiler system. First, a boiler system uses far less energy than a forced air system. Water is a better thermal conductor than air is, meaning it warms up faster and retains heat for longer. Homes with boiler systems installed use far less energy when heating than homes with forced air systems. Boilers also heat rooms much more comfortably than forced air systems, because the method of heat distribution prevents hot and cold spots from forming.
